Gillian Crombie and Ken Rouse receive Paul Harris awards

Gillian Crombie received the Paul HF award for her outstanding service to the community. She gained a B.Com. from the University of Otago, became a Chartered Accountant and is the voluntary Auditor for Cashmere Rotary Club. A Foundation Trustee, (along with her husband Derek) of the Matukituki Valley Protection Project, which is a pest management project that protects a wide range of native flora and fauna in the iconic Matukituki Valley. To benefit native species, ecosystems and recreational users. Gillian spends many hours each year on the Projects pest eradication programme. Gillian is also a trustee of START, Christchurch and has received the NZ Volunteer Service. Award


Past President Ken Rouse also received a Paul Harris  Award   for his strong commitment to the community
and its environment. After the Christchurch earthquakes Ken provided his local
community with food and hot drinks. Ken is very involved and a major contributor to
the Cashmere Stream Care Group since its inception on 2010. The Group carries out
a regular and comprehensive water clarity monitoring programme. They conduct
restoration work in the upper reaches of the stream, carry out advocacy work on behalf
of the stream and mitigate flooding in the South Christchurch area through
development of wetlands. In 2021 Ken received a community service award from his
local Board for the Christchurch City Council.
